The image—our image—is a machine. We are both its subjects and conductors through perpetual interaction. The machine meets our gaze in the mirror. It feels natural, yet against our nature—a back and forth pull.

The machine is a facsimile, sinking its teeth into our every movement and desire, taking measure, and embodying those desires. It responds (reflects) in kind. It has become instinctual for us to engage with these systems.

There is no exterior force—there is only we, and our image. It is the only ‘us’ we can see. It is the spectacle of our time, one which generates our most potent sense of self.

We seek it out. It is rarely a great distance.
